Morgan, Alan

Alan was born in Geelong and has always enjoyed painting and drawing. Alan Morgan’s paintings have their origin in his life long interest in drawing and the sea. His favourite interest is watercolour but he also enjoys drawing with pen and ink. Alan’s subject matter has been strongly influenced by a love of ships and sailing.

His grandfather was a Danish sailing ship seaman who worked as a tug seaman after settling in Geelong. An uncle served in the RAN during WW2, another uncle was a yacht sailor and Alan’s father in law came from a boating family. It was therefore to be expected that Alan would have an interest in ships and sailing and that his subject matter would have a maritime character.

After teaching Geography and History for twenty seven years Alan retired and was able to pursue painting and drawing on a full-time basis. Alan enjoys working with pen, ink and watercolour. Seascapes with yachts, couta boats, ships, lighthouses and piers form a major part of his work. He also enjoys historic subjects such as the bay steamers Ozone and Weerona.

Currenty Allan is producing a series of paintings of the Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale piers. Other subjects include yachts, couta boats and buildings.

Alan has won several awards for his watercolours and his work is widely represented in private and corporate collections and always available at Saeview Gallery. He has also undertaken a number of corporate commissions.
