BRETT  JARRETT  “Just like a portrait artist, any bird or animal painted in the realism genera deserves to be accurately portrayed. As an artist, know your subject and try your best to represent it as beautifully as nature does”.

Born in Portland, southwest Victoria, Brett Jarrett (46) has dedicated most of his life studying and documenting the behaviour and identification of wildlife, in particular birds and mammals.

As one of Australia’s finest bird and mammal painters, it is not surprising he is also the most travelled and experienced of our modern day painters.

Brett’s outstanding ability to paint tonal realism and to keep his subjects authentic and believable has lead to his work being accepted by the prestigious Society of Animal Artists in the U.S.A.

His knowledge on art and wildlife has made him a popular shipboard artist, guide, lecturer and field biologist where he has undertaken many expeditions to the Antarctic continent and the geographic North Pole. Testimony to this experience and skills he has illustrated and co-authored several books in this field:
A Complete Guide to Antarctic Wildlife

Whales, Dolphins and Seals: A Field Guide to the Marine Mammals of the World

Marine Mammals of the World: A Comprehensive Guide To Their Identification

Handbook of Australian, New Zealand and Antarctic Birds, volumes 2 and 3

Avifauna of the eastern tropical Pacific

Feather and Brush: Three Centuries of Australian Bird Art

His wealth of animal knowledge crosses with ease to domesticated breeds and has attributed to him being one of Australia’s leading equine portrait artists, commissioned by clients who desire accuracy and authentic realism in their work.

Animal exploitation and cruelty issues often consume his thoughts and emotions, through the donation of his artwork to animal welfare organizations and conservation groups he has helped raise over $50,000 for the ‘Save the Albatross’ campaign and projects in support of the Arctic’s Polar Bears.
