JANE FLOWERS “I have always been drawn to the pure and aesthetic qualities of nature. Even more in these times of economic and political uneasiness, I like my works to convey the beauty and energy of nature, or to find a moment of quiet space, pieces for meditation as well as enhancing an interior environment, thus promoting a sense of well being. Though recognizable in location, my works are not photographic, I try to capture the ‘essence’ of the moment or place with my own ‘artist’s eye’. My oils on canvas are also a celebration of my love of playing with paint and colour and texture.”

As a keen sailor, scuba diver, and lover of the great outdoors, Jane’s large oils on canvas show her passion for the colours, patterns, textures and light inherent in our Australian landscape and coastlines.

More recently the special light of Australia, especially at late afternoon and early morning, has led Jane to experiment with the use of subtle metallic sheen to convey shifting, intense light.

She feels being ‘in the landscape’ is very important and on her frequent field trips to diverse destinations around Australia Jane fills sketchbooks and takes countless photos (sometimes hanging from the helicopter) as reference for her works to be created back in her studio.

Jane’s images are concerned with capturing the essence of a time and place.

Her studies in graphics influenced and enhanced her sense of colour and simplified the design within the canvas. A trip to Tuscany encouraged the use of underlying texture, layers of glazing and an earthy neutral palette.

Jane has been a professional artist for over 15 years following careers in teaching, advertising and graphic design. Her works are found in many private and international collections. Seaview Gallery is happy to discuss with you and Jane your special commissioned painting.
