Evans, Paul

Born in Brisbane 1950, Paul attended the Brisbane College of Art and worked in the fashion industry for ten years before becoming a full-time artist in 1980. His work is represented in numerous private and corporate collections in Australia as well as the USA, Canada, Argentina, South Africa, UK, France, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Japan.

Paul paints a variety of subjects, often drawing on the power and beauty of nature for inspiration. The portrayal of dynamic and striking sunsets, gentle riverbanks with quiet reflections, the outback, countryside, and beach scenes. He portrays nature quite faithfully and with his individual style and sense of composition, presents work of great interest.

Paul skilfully and patiently builds up his works by careful observation of colour, tone and form. He works in acrylic. In “5.15am” Paul creates an exciting and dramatic composition in this painting of a magnificent sunrise. Paul leads our eye around the canvas, from the dramatic cloud formation in the left hand top corner, to the warm glow of the centrally placed horizon, on the far right side. From here we are drawn to the warmth of early morning light, reflected in the glistening sand on the other side of the canvas. This composition creates a visual dynamic that is not only interesting but also beautifully balanced. The composition combined with the faithful rendition of colour and shape in the amazing cloud formations, results to a truly outstanding work.
