Originally a Melbourne boy, studied art at the then Caulfield Institute of Technology. Philip has lived for many years in the central Victorian bush. He interprets Australian landscape and wildlife in a distinct and vibrant manner. His recent series of collages with over painting present the Australian landscape in a strikingly original context. In 2001 Philip was the Winner of the Innovative and Imaginative WASA prize. Philip has had solo exhibitions in London and Australia over the past 38 years. Work hangs in collections in Australia, Europe, America, Japan, including the Reserve Bank of Australia, New York Collection. He is represented in Ballarat and Bendigo Fine Art Galleries.
Philip comments, “The landscape, and the fauna and flora that inhabit it, has been the main source of inspiration and motif for my paintings. Usually I focus on the native habitat – showing little of the impact of man. However, from time to time, I explore the patterns, textures and rhythms that agriculture creates. In the collages I have taken a less realistic approach, playing with the interaction of man made geometric and formal elements against the organic and informal natural elements.
