Susan Ardern, a popular local artist and musician in the Bellarine Region may be known to many for her vibrant paintings. Each of Susan's new series, tell her story 'her journey' through paint, sculpture and many other creative forms.
In 2000 Susan was commissioned by Mietta's, Queenscliff Hotel to paint iconic images of the Hotel, these paintings are available at Seaview Gallery. Brilliant floral arrangements, bird cages and Ming vases, are all easily recognized by those who love the Hotel.
Susan's artists ability was again formally acknowledge when she was selected from many national and international applicants to be an 'artist in residence' at Bundanon, the living art centre, previously the home of Arthur Boyd, on the Shoalhaven River. Susan found this much coveted opportunity extremely stimulating and resulted in a fantastic collection of paintings. Avante Garden of Animals, represents the paintings from this time.
The Bundanon facilities, included studios, repositories and accomodation units, were made available for selected artists to live and work in an artistic, communal lifestyle. The residency program of three to four weeks, set in this wonderful property, promoted freedom of expression for all forms of artistic creation, including sculpture, drawing and painting.
Animals are a passion for Susan Ardern, and have featured in many art competition entries including Geelong Contemporary Art Gallery, The Archibald Portraits, National History Museum Adelaide, Bendigo & Warnambool Galleries.
Previously, Susan operated her own gallery for two years in Queenscliff, and has done various study tours overseas, including India, Indonesia, Hawaii and the Pacific Islands.
