"The
job of an artist is to visualise the unseen, through whatever medium
the artist feels most secure. The portrait painter should be able to
find that elusive something behind the mask that is the face, the
landscape painter or photographer the atmosphere within that landscape,
the sculptor will chip away all the un-necessities to reveal the very
essence of the art work."
Born and educated in Holland. Except for three years in the Northern Territory, I have lived most of my adult life on the south coast of N.S.W.
Coming from such a small country as Holland, it is the size and the intensity of colours in Australia that has held me enthralled.
Living
in the N.T. for three years gave me a chance to experience the
"centre". The space, curved horizon and the play of colours held a
never ending fascination for me.
I
like to sit or walk through the landscape and experience the mood.
While there, I will do a lot of sketching, but often it will be weeks
before a painting suggests it self, with the colours, and the style to
create the mood, the space and the peace.
